On the recommendation of the Minister for Finance, Mr Charlie McCreevy TD, the Government to-day appointed Mr Edmond Sullivan, Secretary-General in the Department of Social, Community and Family affairs to the post of Secretary General (Public Service Management and Development) in the Department of Finance. The appointment will take effect when a successor to Mr Sullivan has been appointed as Secretary-General in the Department of Social, Community and Family Affairs.
The Government also appointed Mr Sullivan to be Chairman of the Top Level Appointments Committee and Chairman of the Committee of Performance Awards with effect from 26 March 2002.
Mr. Sullivan was educated at St Aidan’s CBS, Whitehall, the Institute of Public Administration and Trinity College, Dublin. He is aged 50 and is married with one son and two daughters. He was appointed Secretary-General of the Department of Social, Community and Family Affairs in May, 1997.
