- The Shareholding Management Unit (SMU) is responsible for the management of the State’s investments the banking sector – including in Allied Irish Banks, Bank of Ireland and Permanent TSB.
- The SMU is also responsible for the management of the Minister’s shareholding in the National Asset Management Agency (NAMA) and represents the Minister’s interests in relation to the oversight of NAMA.
- SMU is responsible for representing the Minister’s interests in relation to the liquidation of IBRC.
- SMU also advises the Minister in relation to the Credit Union sector.
